Sen. White Urges BNYM to Honor Commitment
Calls on CEO
to Continue Armstrong Expansion Project
Senator Don White (R-41) today called on Bank of New York Mellon (BNYM) CEO
Robert P. Kelly to honor his firm's agreement by following through with the
expansion of a data center in Armstrong County.
The company announced last June plans for a $70 million expansion of its call
center operations in Northpointe, South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.
However, BNYM recently indicated that it was halting the expansion.
Senator White, who worked with local officials to provide tax incentives for
the expansion, said he was surprised by the company's decision and sent a letter
to Kelly calling on the firm to honor its commitment to the community.
"BNYM has shown total disregard and indifference by halting this very
important economic development project leading me to question the sincerity with
which your "Corporate Social Responsibility" mission is fulfilled," wrote
Senator White, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance
Committee. "This decision has broken the trust of local elected and economic
development leaders and only serves to enhance the skepticism with which many
working class communities view corporate America."
